Well done...

Well done to all for making it through the weekend...
I had a great time meeting all the personalities at the selection weekend, think I have just about caught up on sleep, hope everyone else has!
Will be very excited to find out the results of the pre-visit that Jools, Caroline and Sarah are going on!

Marie

Well done

Congratulations to all those of you who got through, now the fun really starts. It was great to meet all of you at the weekend and I hope you have made some good friends. I still haven't quite caught up on sleep zzzzz.

Jools, Sarah and I fly out on the 3rd April (next Friday argh) for our pre visit to find a project. Can't wait to tell you all about it at the first training in May which is only 5 weeks away - so much to do and so little time.

Anyway, the next 4 weeks will fly by so get those deposits in to secure your place and start planning your fundraising activities.

Take care

Caroline

Selection Weekend Update

Hi Everybody,

Wow, what a knackering weekend. After quite a few hours sleep last night, I am now partially recovered.

It was a great weekend, and it was so good to meet all of you. Having seen names on pieces of paper for a long time, to see everybody working together over the weekend was fantastic. I hope that all of you had a great time, despite the 4am start on Saturday!

After 3hrs work, the letters are now virtually finished, and should be in the post at lunch time. I know some of you are going to be disappointed, but please keep trying for another expedition. For those that have been selected, once you have come down off the ceiling, please get your forms back in as quikly as possible.

Lastly, again, the weekend would not have happened without the leader team, so a big thank you to Ruth, Marie, Richard, Sarah and Caroline.

Hope to see a lot of you again soon,

Jools

GAINING Training

Hi everybody,

Well, I survived. It certainly was an experience, very intimidatingly, but it was a good day.

On Saturday, Caroline, Sarah and myself attending the Guide Leader Training for Module 12 - known as GAINING. For me as a Scout Leader, this was a very interesting experience, sitting in a room with over 20 other Guiders, and being the only male!

I have to say thou, the day was very well organised, and everybody was very pleasently and friendly. It was strange with constant referes to the "girls" - meaning young people. However, the day was very reassuring to me, as most of the Guide methods of running an International Expedition are along the lines of how I have run the expeditions over the last 7 years. I did try my hardest not to constantly say "well this is how we do it", but temptation did over come me a few times.

I am very glad that I have Caroline and Sarah sorting out the Guide forms, as I am certainly still confused. I think Caroline's method of filling in every form going and sending it out to everybody is one of the best methods going at present!

Still can't quite get over the fact that I drive over 100 miles to a "Guide Leader" training, to find my contact details listed on page 134 of the Guide training manual. Ekkkk

The day was good, and gave me some time to talk with Caroline and Sarah.

More paperwork to do for the selection weekend, and then off to bed!

Welcome to the Zambia 2010 Blog

Hi Everybody,

Welcome to the new Zambia 2010 blog. Hopefully, over the next 20 months this will become a library of information, thoughts and feelings of the team that is selected to attend the Zambia 2010 Scout and Guide expedition.

Only team members will be able to post blogs to this blog. However, others will be able to leave comments. Please remember that this is a Scout and Guide activity and all posts and comments will need to be suitable to this.

This is new territory to me, so I hope it all goes really well.

Julian Sore (Jools)
Zambia 2010 Scout and Guide Leader
